Brendan Gaughan and Phoenix Racing join
forces Phoenix Racing is pleased to announce that NASCAR Winston
West Champion Brendan Gaughan will share driving chores with team driver Roger
Gray for the upcoming 2002 race season.
Unlike most young racers, Brendan Gaughan (pronounced
Gone) has the talent to shine in most any type of competition. Gaughan started
off-road racing before he even had a driver's license and immediately
established himself as a force to be reckoned with, as he won the very first
event he competed in.
Since that first win Gaughan has amassed numerous wins,
top five finishes, five championships and the coveted World Championship title
in a Class 8 off-road truck. Always ready to advance his career, Gaughan
entered the NASCAR Winston West Series in 1999 and, after a sensational rookie
season that year, he won the championships in 2000 and 2001.
Continuing his winning
ways, Gaughan leads the NASCAR Winston West Series championship points this
year and is also campaigning in the NASCAR Truck Series. I'm definitely
excited about joining Phoenix Racing, adds Gaughan. It's definitely
going to be very special. Phoenix Racing is one of the premier teams in
off-road racing and I am honored to be part of it.
I'm really happy that Brendan
has elected to join forces with us, said Bob Gray, owner of Phoenix
Racing. Being able to do well in this type of racing requires a number of
key elementstop-ranked drivers, a tough vehicle, a strong engine and
incredibly tough tires. And we have it alltwo great drivers, a superb
Chevrolet Trophy Truck, Goodyear Tires and an engine built by Tom Scahill
Racing Engines.
Off-road racing
pits drivers against some of the most rugged, ground-pounding treacherous
terrain ever seen. Battling the course, numerous changes in the elements and
other competitors, drivers will pilot their vehicles over hundredes of miles,
with estimated finish times ranging from 8 to 24 hours. And that's
based on everything running smoothly, smiles Gray. It is impossible
to calculate any possible down time for repairs. We pre-run each course before
the race to familiarize ourselves with the terrain. Some courses are highly
technical while others are much faster. Each race is a challenge and part of
the driving will definitely be tough, but I'm confident that Roger and Brendan
will do well.
