| Our History We've been racing more than 30 years! Phoenix Racing Team was formed in 1971 as a family oriented multi-race sport enterprise. Team drivers have competed successfully in Formula Fords, dirt and asphalt go-karts, road-racing go-karts, motocross, desert motorcycles and off-road racing. Since 1974 the main emphasis has been off-road racing where team drivers have competed in over 180 events in the United States, Mexico and France. Phoenix Racing Team has enjoyed success in a number of off-road vehicles including sedans, single and two-seat race buggies, Chevrolet Blazers and Mazda, Ford and Chevrolet pick-ups. These vehicles have been driven in professional competition by Bob, Chris and Roger Gray. Bob's wife Olivia, daughters Lisa and Tanya and sons-in-law Peter and Erich have successfully competed in various sportsman's classes. The Phoenix Phactory In 1979 Phoenix Racing Team created Phoenix Phactory, a design and manufacturing company that developed state-of-the-art shock absorbers for a variety of racing applications. Phoenix Racing Team/Phoenix Phactory gained national recognition and media exposure in the racing community for its advanced designs and excellence in products. Phoenix Racing Team makes headlines In the mid-1980's SCORE® International approached Phoenix Racing Team to field an entry in the newly introduced Baja Safari class. This class was created to promote off-road racing to would-be drivers with a very limited budget and minimal off-road driving experience. Our team gained extensive media attention when it fielded a team of two 16-year old drivers, Lisa and Christopher Gray, in the inaugural 1985 event and two years later placed in the top five with a vehicle driven Lisa, her younger sister Tanya and cousin Chris. We work our way up to Pro Class 8 After a five year hiatus from off-road racing Phoenix Racing Team fielded a full size Blazer driven by Chris, Roger and Bob Gray. After two years in this class a Pro Class 8 Chevrolet pickup was purchased and driven by Chris and Roger to numerous top five finishes, class wins, the 2000 & 2001 class championships and a 2001 overall championship. Phoenix Racing graduates to Unlimited Trophy Trucks After three years of successfully campaigning the Pro Class 8 pickup, Phoenix Racing Team felt confident they were ready to graduate to the fastest and most competitive class in off-road racingUnlimited Trophy Trucks. Roger will campaign the new 2006 Chevrolet Silverado Trophy Truck in the high profile Best In The Desert and SCORE® International series, events that include the famous Baja 1000 race and will be attended by teams from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Australia and Europe and promise to draw more media and television attention than any other events in off-road racing history. |
